Nikon Z50 + 590nm Color IR + Wee Thump Wilderness Area
A Nikon Z50 crop sensor camera was used. A FTZ adapter allowed the use of F-mount 28-300 and 8-15 lenses. The camera was modified by Life Pixel to be sensitive to 590nm color IR. The lenses were selected because they do not have IR hotspots.
It was very windy so a high ISO - 2500 - was used. This allowed for fast shutter speeds. The images were all run through DxO PureRaw. It did a great job of cleaning up high ISO noise and preliminary sharpening.
The original image from the camera is shown, followed by the worked-up image or images. Typical processing involved contrast and brightness adjustment (AUTO in Camera Raw) followed by Red/Blue channel swapping, straightening, cropping, dodging/burning, and sharpening (often Auto Depth of Field in Pixel Genius).
The cyan versions were made using a bogus white balance left in the camera from the conversion. The versions with the nice blue sky were made by passing the original through Nikon's NX Studio and selecting a proper white balance there. Photoshop was then used.
The images were made in the Wee Thump Wilderness Area near Searchlight, NV.
