WPPD 2009 - Quart Paint Can
Quart Paint Can Pinhole Camera. I bought an unused, empty quart paint can at Lowes. I installed a pinhole in the lid (not side) of the can. At first I wrapped dated (but refrigerated) darkroom printing paper around the inside of the can and made an exposure. A refrigerator magnet was the shutter. After figuring out the proper exposure, the resulting images were very much like the Omniscope images: long, narrow and grossly anamorphically distorted. The next step was to also put a piece of circular paper in the bottom of the can along with the paper on the sides. This results in two images, one long and narrow from the sides and one circular from the bottom . The paper is chemically processed and then scanned into the computer. Optionally it can be changed from a negative to a positive image. Next you resize and print out both images. Taping the long, narrow image together at the ends give you a cylindrical 3D picture of what was "seen" by the inside of the paint can. Next you tape the circular image onto the end of the cylinder. Done correctly, the image flows from the top of the cylinder seamlessly down the sides of the cylinder.
